Chicken Kiev from Barber Foods is boneless stuffed chicken breast that is breaded and filled with garlic butter and parsley. The coating on this particular brand of chicken kiev is made with multi-grains. It seems like an increasing number of food is now made with multi-grains.
I didn’t buy this for that reason though. I only noticed it after I got home.
On the wrapper it states that the chicken kiev has been pre-browned in vegetable oil. To me, the coating of this chicken kiev looks similar to what you would find on a frozen chicken patty. Although they are both frozen, you can’t make this frozen chicken kiev in the microwave because the chicken is raw.
You can only bake it in the oven. A meat thermometer must be used to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees.
There are two chicken kievs in a box, but you don’t have to make both at once. The chicken kievs are individually wrapped so you can just take out one and keep the other in the freezer if you only want to make one. This is what I did. I only needed to make one for me.
The directions say to place the chicken kiev on a baking sheet lined with foil to capture escaping butter. Since the pan I was using has raised edges, I figured it was not necessary to line the pan with foil first.
The butter did start to come out the chicken kiev. I was in the other room when the chicken kiev was cooking in the oven. All of the sudden I heard loud sizzling and popping sounds. After 28 minutes, I removed the chicken kiev from the oven and it almost splattered on me.
I was careful to keep the pan an arm’s length away from my face. It is important to let it cool for at least 2 minutes before eating it, otherwise hot butter might squirt out at you when you cut into the chicken kiev.
I like this brand of chicken kiev. The chicken was tender and juicy. The multi-grain coating was good too. It doesn’t taste very different from regular breading. The breading got nice and crispy. I especially like the filling. If you like butter, you will like this.
Other ingredients along with the butter and parsley used in this chicken kiev are:
- ramano and parmesan cheese
This chicken kiev made a splendid dinner entrée for one person.
